Michael Smith is Senior Vice President, Chubb Group and Global Claims Officer. He leads the company’s claims organization globally and is responsible for all aspects of executive claims management, service and administration for Chubb through its worldwide network of claims offices.
Mr. Smith has more than 30 years of experience in insurance and law. Prior to joining Chubb in 2018, he served in executive leadership roles at American International Group (AIG), most recently as Chief Transformation Officer. During his 17-year career at AIG, Mr. Smith also served as Chief Operating Officer, Global Commercial Insurance; President, Global Financial Lines; President, U.S. Financial Lines; President, Financial Lines Claims; President, Miscellaneous Professional Liability; and Chief Underwriting Officer, Miscellaneous Professional Liability. Prior to AIG, Mr. Smith served in executive management roles at XL American Insurance and Zurich US Specialties. Earlier in his career, he worked in private practice specializing in corporate law and also served in-house with GE Capital.
Mr. Smith has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the College of Business at the University of West Florida and a Juris Doctor degree from Fredric G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. He is a trustee of the University of Florida College of Law and a trustee of the Harlem Educational Assistance Fund (HEAF).
