Kate likes to spend her free time with a camera in hand. She also loves bringing people together through her work and her art. During the pandemic she reached out to faraway friends and family with cards she created with her photos. Lucky for her, her work at Chubb is also about staying connected to others.
My team works with specific Chubb businesses to understand what they do, how they do it, and how they would like to enhance it for the customer. We help them decide what makes sense to automate, what is possible from a development standpoint and where it makes sense to enhance our technology first. With automation, we also look at how changes are going to affect everyone involved.
It’s not a one-and-done process. It’s a collaboration. I am working more directly with the developers and programmers now than I ever have before, and I've learned a lot about how things work on the backend. I have also learned so much by coordinating closely with user experience professionals throughout the development process—from conception to launch. It’s changed the way I look at my work to understand what people further down the line need to know.
We are developing a new electronic capability, starting with one specific business unit. First, we work with the business to understand where we should be asking the agent or broker to initiate a series of tasks. Then we take that initial view to the user experience team and talk it through. They look more deeply into the process and help us identify possible problem areas. We take those suggestions back to the business, work out a plan for how we want the process to flow and then partner with the user experience team again to help us create the best experience. Finally, we are coordinating with the development team to bring this feature to life.
Everyone has an equal voice at the table. Everyone knows everyone else on the team. Everyone shares their problems and their successes. You're front and center with the rest of your agile teammates, you don’t just fade into the wallpaper. There is also a lot of interaction with senior leadership. They truly value the expertise that we bring.
